HLH A VITAMIN A DAY CAMPAIGN: PROVIDING DAILY MULTIVITAMINS FOR GUATEMALAN CHILDREN
MALNUTRITION IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM FOR CHILDREN IN GUATEMALA, AND DAILY MULTIVITAMINS ARE ONE WAY TO HELP SUPPLEMENT NECESSARY NUTRIENTS THAT ARE MISSING FROM THE DIET, OR A LACK THEREOF. UNFORTUNATELY, ACCESS TO VITAMINS IN GUATEMALA IS VERY LIMITED DUE TO THE DRUG SHORTAGE. THIS CAMPAIGN SEEKS TO AID IN THE FIGHT AGAINST MALNUTRITION BY HELPING TO PROVIDE A VITAMIN A DAY.
Why are Vitamins Needed?
HLH has partnered with Impact Ministries in order to help provide daily vitamins for the children in their schools. Impact provides a hot meal to their students each school day, along with a dose of multivitamins. The drug shortage greatly complicates their ability to secure vitamins within the country. As such, ensuring they have enough on stock every day for the roughly 1,000 children they serve, is a constant challenge.
Why are Vitamins Important?
43 % of Guatemala’s children suffer from chronic malnutrition, and 46% are stunted (Give Orphans Hope 2018). Malnutrition is the condition of insufficient intake of micro or macronutrients and has severe consequences including impairment of immune system as well as intellectual development. Multivitamins contain many essential nutrients that may be lacking due to a diet comprised only of staples, or due to starvation.
How is HLH Helping?
We raise the necessary funds to purchase bulk vitamins from suppliers, and these packages are sent to Guatemala through mission teams or organizations like Vine International. We choose the vitamins based on economic efficiency, ingredient content and longevity to ensure that they are quality.

What are The Goals of the Campaign?
$500 CAD can supply the Impact Ministries school with 25,000 multivitamins. This will provide a vitamin a day for each child at the school for a little less than a month. Our goal is to send one package of this size, every quarter in 2019, which will supply half of what is needed for the entire school year.

How Can You Get Involved?
There are so many ways you can join in the effort to fight child malnourishment in Guatemala. You can share our message, volunteer your time, or donate. Every little bit brings us one step closer to providing a vitamin a day.
Together we can make an impact on the health of the nations and the generations to come.
