Introducing: Our Director of Research and Development

Esther Adamson
Hi all! My name is Esther-Melody Adamson, I am a BSc. Major studying Biological Sciences and Psychology at the University of Windsor. I was born in Nigeria and immigrated to Canada at an early age. Like most immigrants, my parents wanted us to have a better education and more opportunities in life and one of the greatest features about Canada that allows for these great opportunities is our health care system. We’ve been blessed to live in countries where public and adequate health care is a must but several people around the world do not have this privilege. I have always had a passion for health-care related fields because of two reasons, one, I love helping others and two I especially love helping and working with children.

I have always loved kids! I used to babysit for various families all the time when I was younger and I often volunteered with the children’s ministry at my church. In the summer after my first year of university, I was blessed with an internship at a youth center in Edmonton and this experience really affirmed my passion for children and it made me realize how excited I was to help change their lives in health-care related fields.

I first heard about Hearing the Little Heartbeats from other members during my second year of university. At that time, HLH was still in its birthing stage and all I knew about the organization was that their determination to make an impact in Guatemala was based on some of the first hand experiences that they had personally seen in clinics, hospitals, and other health care facilities in the country. Olejuru, our current VP, spoke of how several hospitals had little to no access to much needed medical supplies and various medication. I was touched by the photographs that showed the interactions between the Missionary students and the Guatemalan children. Honestly, at times when the pressure of school got to me, thinking about them and their smiles helped me persevere. They helped me see the positive sides of situations that seemed so negative. The smiles on each of their faces has never left me and this was what inspired hope in me and a determination to begin this journey with HLH.

I look forward to seeing what God has in store for this organization and I pray that we shall continue to use our resources to contribute to the global community. Please join us in our effort to help the Guatemalan community and to help change the healthcare system.
Together we can make an impact on the health of the nations and the generations to come.
